This page lists:

1. Bible-Study Web Sites

2. Bible-Study Resource Web Sites

What is a Bible study?  A general definition is a study of the Bible to obtain information about context, meaning, history, biography, major themes, linguistics, and life applications.

It is common to see the word "devotional" used to mean a short, life-application Bible study. When a web site, such as crosswalk.com, includes such devotionals, they are referred to here as Bible studies.

For what I call devotionals: short comments on a Bible passage for primarily worship and inspiration, see Peggie's Place.  Generally, devotionals are not included although many web sites listed here also offer devotionals.

A Bible-study web site can be distinguished from sites providing Bible-study resources such as a Bible online, a Bible dictionary, a concordance, word studies and language tools, and Bible Atlases.  But, even in the Bible-Study sites I have listed some Resource Sites because of their wonderful commentary resources, such as the World Wide Study Bible at the Christian Classics Ethereal Library.

The first column in the list, Bible-Study Web Site, gives the name or URL of the site.  Click the name to go to the named web site.

The middle column, Site is About, gives the general content of the web site.

The third column, Additional Reasons to Visit, lists  some of site's interesting content or is where I ramble with editorial comments.

In this listing, I use the following handy abbreviations.

Schedule-Based means the site provides a study for a specified time, such as a day, or week.

Book-Based means the studies are organized by Bible Books, which is different from Topic-Based.

Topic-Based means the site's studies are organized by topic, such as "loving your neighbor," or "how to pray without ceasing."

Mailing Lists means the site uses a mailing list for a major part of the Bible studies offered.  Most sites offer some form of mailing list.

LAQ means Life Application Questions are often included in studies.

Audio means some information can be heard.

Virtually every Christian site links to a King James Bible, or to sites by hard-working Christians who package classic reference books (not subject to copyright) into powerful Bible-study resource sites.

Do you see irony, faithful disciples, simple economics, or the hand of the Holy Spirit in the fact that one of the effects of the Internet has been a rediscovering (by a wider audience) and use of classic, old Christian reference books?   It's all four.

With over a thousand years of books in the public domain, Christian webmasters have virtually all of recorded history available to make their web sites more useful.  And so....use them.  Each one has one or more special features that make it a great tool for a particular task.

The best cooks are not the ones who have found the one best cookbook in the world, but are those who know the wonderful secrets in hundreds of cookbooks.

The sites are the ones I use.  There are hundreds more.  Do your own search of the Internet.  Go to

www.google.com

Search for:

"Bible study"

or

"Bible online"

for example.  Be sure to use the quotes.

Faith From Facts answers the question, "If I buy only one book for Bible study, what should it be?"  Faith From Facts gives a step-by-step description of the six types of books your hard-copy library might contain. But you will ALSO want to have those same KIND of resources available to you on the Internet.

OK, keep on scrolling, the list is almost here.  Here is how the list is organized:

In the Bible Resource Web Site column (the name of the site), I have used the name of the site or some other handy way to refer to the site. Sometimes this is not the exact URL name, but the link will take you to the site, nevertheless.

In the "Site is About" column, the following book-types describe which of the six basic types of Bible-study books are available on the Resource Web Site.  The six basic types of Bible-study books are:

1. Study Bible

2. Bible Dictionary or Encyclopedia

3. Concordance

4. Commentaries

5. Word Studies and Lexicons

6. Bible Atlas and Maps

"Audio" means some information can be heard.

"Video" means some information .... well if you watch TV ... everyone knows what video means.

In the "Additional Reasons to Visit" column, I give some of ways I find the site especially helpful.

If a link does not work, they may have moved, please e-mail me, and I will track down the new URL and complain that I was not notified.  If you want to suggest a site I overlooked, please e-mail me.  Send me an E-mail at OneGospel@aol.com

Online Study Bible.com was founded by John Drolet and Scott Sager and the site is being expanded all the time.

I think I heard a rumor that in an upcoming expansion, they will have the audio portion of Paul's 12+ hour talk at Troas from 58 AD.                                Top
