Prior to being called "Abraham" by God, Abraham was named Abram meaning "high" or "exalted" father. About 2000 years after Abraham lived, Paul referred to Abraham to show that it is through faith, not doing the right things, that God values people. "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." No matter who or where you are in the universe, God is there.
