Does "Best Study Bible" mean "most literal" to you?

These are not the translators, but having a child's energy and desire to learn new things is helpful in Bible Study. The Lockman Foundation, translators of the NASB, has a huge site related to their work on the NASB.

Go to Chart showing how Bible translations rank along scale from word-for-word to paraphrase.

The Chart also shows the source of the Greek Text used by the translators. If learning a little about the Greek or Hebrew text interests you, you want the NASB.

Then your first Study Bible should be the NAS Zondervan Study Bible

Decision Time. Should you write in your Study Bible? I have given suggestions on everything else, but even I must draw the line here. It's a matter of personal preference.

GET THE BEST.

The NASB is the most literal, word-for-word  modern-day translation. It's only slightly more difficult to read than the NIV. More....

If you don't like my first three suggestions as being too wimpy, I recommend that you consider a New American Standard Bible (NASB, and more recently also called the NAS) in a Study Bible format with virtually the same great study notes as the famous NIV Study Bible.
